Trash Must Be Containerized Starting November 12th

Containerization applies to single-family homes, two-family homes and buildings with up to 9 apartments. You can use a compliant bin (55 gallons or less with a secure lid) that you already have, but starting June 2026, you MUST use an Official NYC Bin which is durable, rat resistant, and costs less than $50. To order an official NYC bin, visit: www.bins.nyc

The new rule states that bins with a secure lid be placed at curb after 6:00PM for residential building with 1-9 units. Residential buildings with more than 10 units may follow the new rule and place trash out in bins at 6:00 pm or they can place trash in bags on the curb for collection at 8:00 pm.

For more information or to attend a virtual info session about the new containerization rules, visit the DSNY website.
